Using Ionian, Dorian and Mixolydian over chords.  

Strum    G    chord.         Play Ionian starting on 3rd fret.  Strum  G chord. 

Strum   Am  chord.         Play  Dorian starting on 5  fret.    Strum  Am  chord. 

Strum   D7   chord.         Play Mixolydian starting on 10th fret.    Strum D7 chord.
